Lumineers: the price for 1 tooth in Moscow

Lumineers on the teeth are ultra-fine ceramic veneers that are glued to the front surface of the teeth to improve their appearance. The term Lumineers (Lumineers®) - is a patented trademark owned by the American company DenMat. The name was coined to refer to thin veneers that do not require teeth turning.

DenMat company produces 2 types of original lumineers - Lumineers® CERINATE and Lumineers® DUO, which will be discussed in this article. It should be understood that Lumineers are not the only very thin veneers of their kind, and this is just a patented trade name. Therefore, when you hear about thin veneers or ultranirs - all this is the same as the original Lumineers®.

For original lumineers, the price for 1 tooth in Moscow will be from 30,000 rubles (see the price list below). However, there are very thin veneers produced under other brands, for example, Vivaneers®DaVinci®IPS-Emax®. In this article, we will not engage in advertising, and vice versa will talk about the reasons why the lumineers reviews from aesthetically demanding patients are positive enough rarely.

Lumineers and veneers: the difference

So what's the difference between veneers and lumineers? Firstly, the original lumineers have a thickness of only 0.2 mm, but their main competitive advantage (actively distributed in advertising) is the lack of the need to grind enamel from the front surface of the teeth. It should be noted here that all this is not quite true, and in the official instruction there is already a more plausible thickness - "0.3-0.7 mm."

In turn, the thickness of classic standard veneers is on average 0.6-0.7 mm, and their installation always requires grinding the enamel layer on the front surface of the teeth. But there are also so-called "thin veneers" made of pressed ceramics, which have a thickness of only 0.3-0.4 mm. To install thin veneers, minimal enamel grinding is required, and sometimes you can even do without it.

Findings: but then veneers and lumineers - what is the difference between them? Buying original lumineers, the cost of which ranges from 30,000 and up to 60,000 rubles (per unit) - you buy only the brand and the advertising slogan “without turning the teeth”. But the statement that it is not necessary to grind the teeth under the Lumineers is a very controversial moment. Increasing the thickness of teeth by 0.2-0.3 mm without turning them - visually significantly increases their size, making them somewhat "horse."

Thin veneer of pressed glass ceramics E.max will cost you from 21,000 rubles, and at the same time it has the same thickness. Manufacturer E.max (company Ivoclar Vivadent, Germany) - in this case, too, could talk about the absence of the need to grind the teeth, but that would be wrong, because in this case, to get really beautiful, natural-looking teeth - in most cases it is simply impossible. In Figure 8-11, you can see how, after fixing the lumineers without turning the teeth, the latter look like giant plastic crowns.

Video 1 - Original Lumineers® CERINATE,
video 2 - E.max thin veneers (without teeth turning).

As for the strength of lumineers -
original lumineers® Made of porcelain brand Cerinate bending strength of about 110 MPa. In turn, the bending strength of thin E.max PRESS ceramics veneers is about 400 MPa. This affects the risk of chipping the ceramic mass and the service life.

Lumineers on teeth: indications for use

Due to its small thickness, fragility, and high transparency, lumineers on the teeth have a sufficiently large number of contraindications (a list of which is even more than that of ordinary veneers). Therefore, during the initial examination, the dentist will look at what is best for veneers or lumineers in relation to your situation. The list of indications for lumineers is quite modest, and each indication also has a lot of limitations related to the size of the teeth, inflammation of the gums, etc.

  • Masking spots and cracks on enamel, fillings -
these are color disorders that cannot be neutralized with chemical bleaching. It may be small spots, cracks of enamel or fillings, which are noticeable against the background of the tooth's own tissues. High-quality lumineers a priori should be sufficiently transparent, and therefore they are not suitable for masking brightly pronounced spots. And if you make them opaque, they will be more like bright white plastic than natural tooth enamel.
  • Correction of small bite problems -
firstly, they will allow closing small gaps between teeth, for example, diastema. Secondly, if the teeth are unevenly arranged in the dentition - they can be used to achieve the effect of visual alignment of the dentition (this is due to the fact that when installing lumineers on only some of the teeth, they will increase the thickness of these teeth).
  • Lightening teeth -
With the help of lumineers, you can visually lighten your teeth by 1-2 shades. It is possible, but still it is better to do it with the help of chemical bleaching - it will be both more efficient and cheaper.

Important: as you already understood, the use of lumineers will be effective only to eliminate the small problems of the aesthetics of the front teeth. To eliminate the expressed problems: bright spots, wide interdental spaces, chipping of the cutting edge, to change the inclination of the tooth, etc. - standard veneers should be used.

Lumineers: the price for 1 tooth in Moscow

How much are the Lumineers - the price for 1 tooth will be from 30,000 to 60,000 rubles, if we talk about the original products of the DenMat company (USA). This company produces 2 variants of lumineers - Lumineers® CERINATE and DUO, differing in price.

  • Lumineers cost® CERINATE -
These are individually made Lumineers, which are made on the basis of the patient's tooth casts. Their cost will be from 50,000 to 60,000 rubles per unit. This price includes the manufacture, installation and all associated costs, except shipping. The cost of delivery (regardless of the number of lumineers) is about 40,000 rubles.

Today, the American company DenMat manufactures Lumineers® CERINATE is not only in its own laboratory in the United States, but also in 2 laboratories, which are located one by one - in Italy and Luxembourg. None of the other dental laboratories around the world has the right to make such thin veneers under the Lumineers brand.®.

  • Lumineers cost® DUO -these are no longer individually manufactured, but headsets of ready-made lumineers produced in several sizes and colors. Looking at your teeth, the doctor will select the desired version of the headset, which will be more consistent with your teeth. But in any case, you should understand that they will not fit your teeth exactly to the shape, and therefore, after fixing on the teeth, they will be able to drill with a drill for a long time, bringing it to mind.

Lumineers Lumineers® DUO is a hybrid of Cerinate ceramic and composite filling material. In fact, they are no better than composite veneers worth 8,000–9,000 rubles, which are made entirely from light-polymer composite filling material. Their only advantage in front of individually manufactured lumineers / thin veneers is the possibility of fixing immediately on the day of treatment to the dentist.

  • E.max thin veneers -E.max pressed glass ceramics is the best type of ceramic material used in dentistry. This material most closely matches the natural enamel of the teeth according to its optical properties, and therefore makes it possible to impart a very high level of aesthetics to veneers / crowns made from this material, which is simply unattainable for original Lumineers®. The price of E.max averages about 21,000 rubles (per unit).

Lumineers: reviews

Studies show that lumineers have a lifespan that is rarely comparable to that of ordinary veneers of 15-25 years. Several studies have shown that the lifespan of lumineers usually does not exceed ten years. However, all these studies were conducted in Europe and the USA, where the quality of medical care is incomparably higher, and where most patients are protected from situations where the doctor recommends the service, even seeing that it is not very suitable for the patient and there are risks of breakdowns.

In the US, only 5-6% of doctors use lumineers in their practice. The survey revealed the main reason: it is very difficult to restore aesthetics with the help of lumineers. Most of the American dentists surveyed in this study said that they simply could not get the same realistic, natural appearance of teeth with lumineers that they can get using ordinary veneers.

Lumineers can be of different transparency. More transparent lumineers look naturally on the teeth, but at the same time they do not mask the color problems of the teeth. More opaque Lumineers - better eliminate the problems of the color of enamel, but give the teeth an absolutely unnatural look (Fig. 8-11), and a compromise is difficult to achieve here.

Disadvantages of lumineers: summary

  • A noticeable increase in the thickness of the teeth -
An increase in the thickness of teeth by the thickness of lumineers (0.2-0.3 mm) will be very noticeable, i.e. visually the teeth will become much more massive. Increasing the size of teeth can even affect a person’s speech, lip articulation, and in some cases it becomes difficult for some patients to simply close their lips.

Therefore, if you already have large teeth, then it is better to consider the option of installing lumineers or veneers with grinding the enamel layer. Increasing the thickness of teeth, of course, can be a plus, but only when the teeth are small, as well as in a situation of uneven dentition (when gluing lumineers on certain teeth will visually level the slight curvature of the teeth relative to each other).

  • Artificial appearance of teeth -
as we said earlier: more transparent lumineers are not good enough to mask dark teeth or bright spots, and the installation of less transparent lumineers immediately leads to the fact that teeth look less natural - as if there are crowns of plastic on the teeth. In addition, the teeth look much more massive, which also does not improve their aesthetics.

However, in the eyes of many people, a quick and painless placement of lumineers that does not require teeth turning is an advantage, which simply outweighs the insufficiently good aesthetics of lumineers. The presence of too bulky and less natural teeth in some patients does not cause concern, because for them it’s more important that they become simply whiter.

  • More often there is caries and gingivitis -
Lumineers are installed without turning the tooth, which leads to the formation of small protrusions in the interdental spaces and the gum zone. Firstly, it complicates hygiene and contributes to the accumulation of microbial plaque, pigment plaque and tartar. And if you are not going to brush your teeth necessarily after each meal (both with a brush and dental floss), fixing lumineers will certainly provoke the development of caries and gum inflammation.

Secondly - the ledge in the gum area contributes to chronic injury to the gums. Trauma to the gums leads to inflammation, and in the long term it can lead to loss of bone tissue around the tooth and to the development of gingival recession (exposure of the tooth root). If deterioration of hygiene and chronic injury to the gums are observed at the same time, the lumineer very quickly becomes a problem.

Veneers or Lumineers: Which is Better

If you have a choice: Lumineers and veneers - the difference between them lies in what is more important to you. You will have to choose between excellent aesthetics and a long service life of veneers (with a minimum of 0.3 mm enamel grinding from the front surface of the tooth) and only a satisfactory aesthetics of lumineers, but without turning the teeth.

The bottom line is that with the help of veneers, you can achieve more realistic natural aesthetics, and with the help of lumineers this can be achieved only in very rare cases ... For example, when you have small teeth at the same time, and there are slightly wide interdental spaces, and there are no dark teeth or bright spots on them - only in this case the lumineers can be made quite translucent and not too bulky.

In addition, lumineers are ideal for patients who need only minimal changes in the shape and color of teeth. Remember that good lumineers are always translucent, but in this case they are unable to mask the dark color and bright spots on the teeth. If the doctor uses opaque Lumineers to close more noticeable tooth color disorders, your teeth will always look artificial and not natural.

Important: but there is one more very important feature that makes the original lumineers® CERINATE and DUO are even less aesthetic than veneers. The fact is that the original Lumineers will not be manufactured at the clinic (where you go), but at one of the 3 tooth-technical laboratories located in the USA or Europe. At the clinic, at first, you will only be removed from the teeth by sending them to one of these laboratories.

This means that you will see finished Lumineers only when they are delivered, and even if you do not like their shape or color, nothing can be done. Therefore, it is best to opt for thin veneers without turning E.max extruded ceramics - they will be made in a dental-technical laboratory at any clinic. And at the stage of fitting - you can still ask to change the color or shape, if you do not like something.

And the last moment - make standard or thin veneers only in those clinics that have exactly their own tooth-technical laboratory, located in the clinic itself. In this case, the prosthetist will be in close contact with the dental technician, and the latter will also be able to see you in the chair (both at the stage of taking impressions and during the fitting of the work). Believe me, this will allow the dental technician to achieve better aesthetics.

Install lumineers -

To deliver custom made lumineers® Cerinate - you will need to come to the dentist twice. During the 1st visit, the dentist will take a cast of your upper and lower teeth, take photographs of your teeth, discuss with you the color and transparency of future lumineers. On this first visit for you is over, and the clinic will immediately send your impressions to the tooth-technical laboratory of the company "DenMat".

During the second visit (after about 1 month), you will be invited to the clinic again, and the dentist will install ready-made lumineers on your teeth. For their fixation, a special super strong "cement" is used, which will make your teeth and lumineers pasted on them - one piece. At the end, the dentist must check the contacts between the upper and lower teeth. This is important because if the chewing pressure is not evenly distributed on the teeth - it threatens to break some lumineers.

If you choose not original Lumineers® Cerinate, and thin E.max glass-ceramic veneers, their production time will take about 1.5-2 weeks. And in our opinion, individually made thin E.max veneers will be really the best choice, moreover, both in price and quality.

Installing lumineers from standard headsets -

If you install Lumineers from pre-packaged standardized Lumineers kits® DUO (fig.15-16), then keep in mind that they will not take into account the peculiarities of your teeth. This means that after fixing the lumineers between the teeth and in the gum area there will be small steps that cannot be completely removed. In general, this is the usual lining on the teeth - the price of which will be anyway very high.

Lumineers® DUO can be installed as early as the day you go to the dentist. After they are fixed to the teeth with a special composite “glue”, the doctor will be able to grind them with a drill for a long time, bringing their appearance to mind (after which a process of very thorough polishing will be required).

Luminira: contraindications

Because Lumineers are fixed to the teeth without first grinding the enamel, they are made without overlapping the cutting edge (otherwise, the teeth just won't close normally - this is once, and chipped ceramics will immediately appear - these are two). Clinical studies show that veneers with a cutting edge overlap are always more resistant to chipped ceramics than those made without overlapping.

Thus, the number of contraindications to Lumineers will be even greater than to veneers. And here it is not unimportant to take into account that Lumineers will be categorically contraindicated for patients with chronic sluggish gum inflammation, as well as patients with irregular oral hygiene (especially - not using dental floss after each meal).

Lumineers are not recommended. -

  • with increased abrasion of teeth
  • in the absence of lateral chewing teeth (overloading the front teeth in this case will lead to lumineer breakage),
  • при занятиях контактными и экстремальными видами спорта,
  • при бруксизме,
  • если у вас привычка кусать ногти, откусывать нитки, грызть семечки и т.д.
  • при наличии травматической окклюзии,
  • in the presence of direct or reverse bite,
  • Do not install on the teeth treated with the resorcin-formalin method.

Can lumineers be removed over time?

It is usually believed that if the surface of the teeth is not ground under the lumineers (in most cases), they can be removed completely painlessly. You may be surprised, but this is not true. Of course, lumineers can try to whittle down a drill, but this is a very long process, and this does not mean that the tooth surface is not injured. Lumineers are glued to the enamel on a very strong "cement", which firmly binds the lumineer to the surface of the tooth. We hope that our article: Luminira photos before and after the price - turned out to be useful to you!
