It is produced by the French pharmaceutical company "Galderma", specializing in the production of drugs for the treatment of skin diseases. Today in pharmacies you can find a huge amount of drugs for the treatment of acne and acne, most of which are ineffective. The variety of drugs creates the difficulties of the right choice - with reference to your situation. This article was prepared by a professional dermatologist, and it will allow you to understand whether Differin will be effective exactly in your situation.

Differin: instructions for use

For drug Differin reviews will depend on the correct choice of the form of release of the drug. The gel is suitable for patients with oily and normal skin. For patients with dry skin, a cream form is preferable. Of course, the cream will be slightly less effective than the gel. However, if you have dry skin and you start using exactly gel, then this will lead to an even greater increase in irritation and dryness of the skin, and in the end - quite the opposite result of treatment.

Composition and release form -

The main active ingredient of the drug is the substance "Adapalen". Adapalen belongs to a new generation of synthetic retinoids (tretinoin and tazaroten also belong to retinoids). Differin is available in two forms - in the form of a cream or gel for external use:

  • Differin Gel 0.1% -
1 g of gel contains 1 mg of adapalene; as excipients - phenoxyethanol, propylene glycol, edetate disodium, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, water, carbomer; poloxamer 182, sodium hydroxide.
  • Differin cream 0.1% -
1 g of gel also contains 1 mg of adapalene; as excipients, carbomer (974P or 934 P), glycerol, natural squalane, disodium edetate, cyclomethicone, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, methyldextrose sesquystearate, phenoxyethanol, sodium hydroxide, water and macrogreen methydelen, methydextrose, sesquistearate, phenoxyethanol, sodium hydroxide, water, and macrogrown methydextrose methydextrose; Available in tubes of 30 g.

Pharmacological action of the drug -

Adapalen, which is part of Differin, has comedonoliticheskuyu action (ie, helps to remove acne, and also prevents their formation), as well as anti-inflammatory and sebrostatic action. The action of the drug is based on the effect of adapalene on epithelial cells that line the hair follicle from the inside.

As you know, acne occurs due to 2 factors -

  • due to an increase in secretion by the sebaceous glands (sebum),
  • due to hyperkeratosis of the epithelium of the hair follicle, as a result of which a large number of desquamated necrotic epithelial cells accumulate in the follicle lumen. Excess fat secretion and exfoliated cells leads to blockage of skin pores and the formation of acne (Figure 3-4).

Adapalene affects the epithelium of the hair follicle, regulating the processes of keratinization and shedding of dead cells, which leads to a sharp decrease in the number of exfoliated epithelial cells in the follicle lumen. As a result, there is a cessation of the formation of fatty congestion (acne) in the skin pores.

Method of application, the course of treatment -

The drug is used only externally 1 time per day. It is best to apply the drug on the skin in the evening (before bedtime), after clearing the skin with mild detergents and drying it. Differin is applied only to the affected skin with light massaging movements.

A good effect from the use of the drug develops after 4-8 weeks of use. However, in order to achieve a stable long-term result, it is necessary to use the drug in a 3-month course. It is desirable to use a preparation a repeated course only after consultation of the dermatologist.

Differin can be combined with other treatments for acne, for example, salicylic or azelaic acid preparations. This will enhance the effectiveness of therapy and the speed of achieving the result of treatment. In this case, Differin is still used 1 time a day before bedtime, and the listed drugs - in the morning.

If you have acne and acne at the same time, then you need to combine a retinoid (for example, Differin) with the following groups of drugs -

  • either with benzoyl peroxide preparations,
  • either with Clindamycin or Erythromycin antibiotic gels.

Differin: dermatologist reviews

We hope that you understand the difference between acne and acne, because the drug Differin will be effective from acne, but not from acne. Acne on the skin of the face may look like -

  • either as white bumps (so-called closed comedones, fig.5),
  • or as black dots in the pores of the skin (open comedones, fig.6).

Acne is only fatty plugs in the pores of the skin, which are formed due to an excess of fat secretion by the sebaceous glands and due to the large number of exfoliated epithelial cells. For acne in the hair follicle, there is still no inflammation.

Acne is a continuation of the development of acne. After all, acne (fatty plugs) create a closed space in the hair follicles, and this is the condition for the start of reproduction of pathogenic bacteria inside the follicle. Thus, acne and transformed into a pimple (Fig. 7), and pus is gradually forming inside the pimple.

  • Acne Effectiveness -
the drug will be very effective with closed eels in the form of white bumps. Differin from black spots (i.e., with closed eels) will also be no less effective. It must be said that the preparations of the group of retinoids, to which Differin belongs, are the gold standard for the treatment of acne throughout the world. Drugs based on azelaic or salicylic acids can serve as a weaker alternative to retinoids for acne.
  • Effectiveness with acne -
The drug will not be effective for acne in any way! Proper treatment of acne involves primarily the use of benzoyl peroxide preparations, which have a high antimicrobial effect, as well as antibacterial gels.
  • When there are acne and acne at the same time -
This drug can be used, but not in the form of monotherapy, but if combined with drugs based on benzoyl peroxide or with antibacterial gels (the latter is best, since in this case the possible combined skin irritation will be less).
